A sprinkling of early lambs is to b 3 seen in the flocks of several graziers in the Ashburton County. Owing, however, to the paucity of feed it is not likely that there will be an early maturity of lambs. A schemo has been launched for the formation of what will, if agree* f> by the millers, bo practically a flour combine in New South Wales. The success of the Victorian Flourmillers’ Association has prompted some of the largest Sydney millers to form a similar association to improve • o condition of the trade The ru es suggested will bo for the most part those adopted by the Victorian organisation. A New Zealand scheme, the basic principle of which is a central distributing agency, was believed by sr>nie millers to he better than the VicItorian system, and it may be adopted later. It is proposed that the executive committee shall fix the minimum price for flour, wheat, meal, sharps, bran and pollard for the whole state, and that forward selling of flour shall ho limited to three months. It is also provided, as a basis of calculation, that 20s per ton bo regardel as the cost of flour manufacture, and 50 bushels of wheat as the quantity to make a ton of flour. It is not considered that the combine, so long as it limted to one state, would forco up prices to any considerable extent, unless a combination with organisations in other states followed-
