Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 9. The steame® Invert-ay, which was delayed through trouble with her firemen, three of whom were sent to prison for mutinous behavior, filled the vacancies to-day, and sailed again this evening for Delaware Breakwater, United States. Two of the new firemen signed on at £5 a month, the other at £B, The rate of pay received bv the firemen who shipped in the Old Country was £4 10s a month. The following particulars are available concerning exports from the colony during last month, the figures for last year where procurable being stated in parenthesis’:—Butter £25,3/5 (£0589), cheese £3702 (£578), beef £55.571 (£23,124), mutton £147,934 (£122,752), lamb £167,614 (£127,759), wheat £43 (£279), oa'Ts £299 (£6911), potatoes £B2 (£124), liemp £47.536 (£76,461), tow £6119, rabbits £6691, kauri gum £63,426, grain and pulse £8443, bops £1489, hides £19,339, tallow £46,013, skins £72,101. timber £25,147, wool £207,882, gold £212,809. Mr. C. O. Montrose, well known throughout- the colony qiainly through lii-s connection with journalism, died in Wellington, aged 67 years. Deceased served in bis youth both in the navy and army, and was afterwards private secretary to Sir George Grey. Subsequently Mr. Montroso was engaged in journalism. He is author of “Picturesque New Zealand’’ and “Strikes and their Remedies.” * ASHBURTON, August 9.
At the Magistrate’s Court to-day Isabella- Burgess was fined £lO for slygrog selling. Defendant stated that her husband suffered from asthma and she sold liquor to make ends meet. A week/:was allowed for payment of the- fine. William Morley was fined 20s and costs for sending liquor into a nolicense district insufficiently labelled.
