CANCER IN WELLINGTON.
NOT AN INFECTIOUS DISEASE. (Special to Times). WELLINGTON, August 6. Someone having written to the Post regarding the necessity for fumigating a house in which a cancer patient had died, inquiries were made, and the District Health Officer states that there is absolutely no evidence that cancer is an infectious disease. The cause of the disease is not known, and the ailment so far as is known is not communicable. The disinfection of the houses where cancer had been present is not contemplated in the Health Act, and the Department has no power to order it. Houses where consumption or other infectious disease have been in evidence are disinfected immediately after the patients leave or die, that is if the cases are known to tho authorities.
