(Special to Times).
WELLINGTON, August 2. F'oi some years past the Opposition have been asking the Government to produce a list of Civil servants with the salaries they are receiving. Today Sir Joseph Ward presented such a return, covering ten departments of -the Civil Service, and was complimented by both sides of the House upon the new departure. The Premier was urged to complete the return by giving a list of the, small army of temporary clerks, many of whom have grown grey in tlie service. While the Opposition were complimenting Sir Joseph, Mr. Jennings inteijected: “Beware of the Greeks when they bring you offerings!” Sir Joseph smilingly asserted that the Opposition praise was such that the Government ought to go on the Opposition benches. Mr. Massey: “Hear, hear. A lot of people in the country think so, too.” Sir Joseph Ward: “Do they”? Mr. Massey: “Especially after the Land Bill.” S |r . Joseph Ward : “It’s surprising o think that they keep the lion, gentleman tliore then.”
