The value of the mining production increased from £4,431,643 to £7,912, 916. The deposits in the bank 'of issue increased by £11,242,727. Not only do I intend to carry out the present tour, but, as I announced from the stage on the closing night'in Melbourne, I intend to give a grand opera season in Australia every two years. This catalogue* of troubles may afford some idea of what an opera manager may encounter in his endeavour to give the people of Australia a. worthy production of- some of the best work of the great masters. The recent unfortunate incidents have cost me, at a reasonable estimate, fully £SOOO on the Sydney season.”
