QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT
(Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, last night. In. the Houso to-day the following questions were asked and answered : Mr. Ngata asked the PostmasterGeneral whether after inquiry and consideration as promised by him last session he deems it advisable to establish a branch of the Post Office Savings Bank, at Nuhaka? —Reply: Every attention has been given to tlie desire for the establishment of a savings bank at Nuhaka. The difficulty lies in local conditions. Tile postmaster will not do the work, and is willing to resign in favor of a more
suitable appointee, but no one cwn be iiiuinh at present. - The questioned a separate building:, at Nuhaka Sdiieh will permit of the appointment J>f a postmistress and the opening of| the desired office is being considered). Mr. Ngata also' asked about additions to the post office at Waipiro Bay. so as to provide accommodation on the premises for the officer in charge, as has been done at the nohdibermg offices at Tuparoa and Tbkiimaru Bay. The reply was that this matter is under consideration. Mr. Ngata then asked the Post-master-General whether ill view of the fact that Gisborne has several times during the last few months been isolated by the breakdown of the telegraph line, he will make proyiMoii for an alternative line from \\airoa, via Wharerata, or through Motu to Opotiki P Sir Joseph Ward i epiied : Arrangements are' now being made to fill up the gap of 15 miles between More re and Wharerata, on in 3 coach road, to give an alternativi route to the present line, which follows near the coast over hilly country, and is somewhat exposed. The Motu alternative route also proposed "Child not be of the same service.
