DEBATING SOCIETY.
The usual weekly meeting of the Gisborne Debating Society was held last- evening in tlie Choral Hall, thei© being about 40 members present. Tho Rev. Dawson Thomas occupied tho chair. Tho question set down for debate, “Is tho Color Question Solvable? ’ was postponed, owing to Dr. Collins being absent, suffering from a cold. It was decided to substitute a Question Box night, and tho following members spoke in reply to the various questions submitted : —Alessrs. lCimblo, Olliver, Cox, AlcLoan, Emerson, Collins, AlcFarlano, Ennis, Catton, A 7 owl os. Caldwell, and Darton. At the close of the evening the chairman announced that the society would have to procure another meet-ing-place, as tho Choral Hall has been taken over again by the Baptist Church Committee. A working committee, consisting of Alessrs. Darton, Cox, and McLean, will bo pleased to
receive suggestions ro new rooms, as it will be necessary to have them
ready for next Monday night’s debate.
On Monday fortnight Archdeacon AVilliams will give an address on “The Weather,” with particular reference to local conditions. As this is ono of Archdeacon A\ 7 illiams’ pot subjects, members of the society wlio wish to hear an interesting and instructive address should not fail to attend tho meeting on Monday fortnight. Tho. place of meeting for next Alontlay night will be advertised in Saturday’s paper at the latest.
