LIBEL" S ACTION SETTLED. United Press Association—Copyright LONDON, July 17. _ H. Lever, head of the firm of Lever Bios., soap manufacturers, instituted a prosecution against the Daily Mail and Evening News for libel in connection with the Soap Trust.. He declared that the attacks on the Trust cost him in a few weeks £40,000 on sales alone, while tw o million pounds worth of £lO preference shares of tlie firm declined £1 each, besides other losses on ordinary shares, and as'regards goodwill. The Daily Mail and Mirror withdrew their" imputations against Lever and tlie actions have been settled for ’ £ JO, 000 damages. Mr Rufus Isaacs, counsel for the newspapers, announced that ibView of Lever’s did meaner in tlio witness box ho would withdraw.the plea of justification. Mr. Justice Lawrence oommended this action as an honorable and proper course. The damages awarded arc exclusive of taxed costs.
