FLAX GRADING.
Press Association. PALMERSTON, yosterday. A meeting of the New Zealand Flux-millers’ Association was held today. A letter was received from the Agricultural Department covering the proposed amended regulations governing the grading and export of fibre. The Association generally approved of the proposed amendments, but a motion was carried regretting that the Department could not see. its way to grant the use of tow ropes instead of fibre, providing the weight does not exceed the present deduction for tare. A motion was also carried in favor of the appointment of a chief grader, a mail of scientific attainments, antl'one well acquainted with the requirements of manufacturers and fibre. A long discussion took place upon the taxation of flax lands, the apparent intention of taxing the growth on the land being roundly condemned. It was decided that the Association views with apprehension the present intentions, and that a deputation wait upon the Minister with the object of obtaining relief, in the direction sought, viz., that the value of the flax crop should not be subject to land tax.
