Mr. Geo. Lnurenson, -M.H.R., arrives from tho South this morning. The appointment of Mr. Thos. A. Coleman as Commissioner of the East Coast Native Board is gazetted h« from the 15th inst.
Captain Tucker, Chairman of the Cook County Council, telegraphed yesterday that he will he unable to visit Gisborne till the 21st inst. Accordingly the County Council meeting has been fixed for Monday, the 22nd inst.
A Press Association cablegram from Hobart states that Madame Careno, the pianiste, was a passenger by the Maheno for New Zealand, after a brilliant tour in the Commonwealth.
Mr. J. W. Bell, from the Invercargill office, has been appointed chief accountant at the head office of the Agricultural Department, vice Mr. E J. Fitzgibbon, resigned. Mr. A. Calcott, from Napier office, is to become officer in charge at Christchurch, in succession to Mr Longden, resigned. Mr Sharp, from head office, is to succeed Mr Callcott at Napier. A cablegram from London states that Arnold Trowel], a New Zealand violinist, had a successful recital at Bechstein Hall. His playing was favorably noticed by the newspapers.
