WILLIAMSON’S DRAMATIC CO.
Mr. Julius Knight, Australia’s favorite dramatic, star, who is supported by Mr. J. C. Williamson s new dramatic company of English and Australian artists, will make Ins reappearance in Gisborne, commencing on Monday next, in three of the most popular plays of the present day. Mr Knight, during the interval between his last Australian season and the present one, visited England and America in search of plays and performers to support him on his tour. The pieces he selected were arranged for on account of their suitability for Australian audiences. “Waffles, the Amateur Cracksman,” by E. W. Hornung and Eugene W. l’rosbrey, is a now departure for this popular actor. The leading role of A. W. Raffles is different to anything we havo formerly seen Mr. Knight appear in. This part he is eminently suited for, as judging by press reports we have perused the most glowing encomiums have been bestowed on him. “Brigadier Gerard” is by the well-known author Sir Arthur Conan Dovle. and besides being a Charming story is an exciting and interesting play. Captain Gerard, in which part Mr. Knight appears, is a dashing officer of Hussars in the arin l ' of Napoleon. The intrigues and adventures, the love and adventures, the brilliant scenery of the period and dresses, are a combination of wliat make a play highly interesting to one and all. “Robin Hood” is to be staged for a farewell production, and is said to be ono of tin, finest dramas staged on the English stage. It is a vigorous and fascinating play, the period and locality being fascinating to a degree. The costumes of tile time have a charm and grace hard to equal, while the stirring adventures of King Richard should provide plenty of sensation, relieved by~ romantic love episodes. The box plans are at Mr. W. Miller’s and are rapidly filling.
