LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

OI’ENING OF 30,000 ACRES. Next month there will he thrown open for selection upwards of 30.000 acres of land in the Auckland province including 4354 acres of the well-known Wiiimana Block, in the Bay of Plenty and some 27,000 acres of second-class uiKiurveyed, heavy bush lands in Opotiki County. The Wuimana lands will he oiien for selection at Auckland and Wliakatano on Monday, August 5, and the ballot will be taken on August 10, at the latter place. In the case of the Opotiki lands, applications will be received on August 12. at Auckland and Opotiki, the ballot being on August 11. at Opotiki. The Waimana Block is divided into three groups—dairy iorins, ordinary farms, and village allotments, on the L.I.P. tenure. The dairy farms vary from 78'acres to 210 acres in extent, at lmlf-vearly rental ranging from LIS 18s to £52, there being seven sections in all. There are ten ordinary farms, of from 104 acres to 751 acres, aiid the half-yearly rentals ranging from Ll‘.) to j£4B. This land is in the Wainn na Valley, withinconvenient distance of Opotiki, Ohiwa. and Whakatane, and the village of Taneatua. The altitude varies from 100 ft to 900 ft, and the flats vary from rich alluvial deposit in gravel to gravel with a light covering. The soil on the lulls is of light loamy character, of fair quality, but inferior in places, and each farm is well watered. The Opotiki land totals in all 27,628 acres, and it will be offered in fairly largo sections, ranging from 580 acres to ISOO acres. These areas will be open for sale of selection, either for cash or on the 0.11.3’. or L.I.P. tenure. A god deal of the land is liitrh country, ranging from 300 ft to hove sea-level, 3 ft covered with Heavy forest. Generally speaking, the land lies in Blocks XIV., :XV.. and XVI., Waioeka S.D., Trocksll. and lIT., Waioeka .South S.J). ; and in the Wniaivn and Unit awa S.D.
