SCHOOL v. WOIUvING BOVS
The Gisborne School Boys plstyod the Working Bovs team afternoon, when the size and u y of the working hoys proved too much for the school hoys, who, bo«‘-' < n j stuck to their guns pluckily, and compelled the working hoys to play hard for their victory. Taking the kick himself, e safely piloted the leather between the uprights. School, 5 points ;At orkmg In the second spell the AVo riling Boys ran over their smaller opponents, scoring three tries, Campbell (2) and Parker being the scorers. The goal-kicking was of a very mierio- iiunlit>. The Working Boys were victorious by 9 points to o. Mr H. Robinson controlled the impetuous youths in a capable manner, giving entire satisfaction, ulnle Messrs. Thompson and Jones wielded the lino pennons.
DINNER AT. DUSTIN’S.
The victorious Carriers and the vanquished Bakers met once again to try conclusions —-this time at tlio dmnei it Mr. Dustin’s supi>er-rooms, and ,'ho honors oil this occasion were carried off by the Bakers in a very easy manner, the Carriers being badly beaten at the third course. There wore about 40 present, and after full justice was done to the good things pro ,-ided a very enjoyable musical programme was gone through. Heim, yore contributed by Messrs. AA :Ikm•ion, Gray, Corbett, Hughes, Burnand Dustin, Casley, and Allingfon. Durlig the evening Air. Dustin (captain 'if the Bakers), proposed the toast of the referee (Mr. J. Somervell), who unfairly replied. Mr. Dustin expressed himself highly pleased at the manner in which the Referee’s Association had responded to the requests of the Thursday footballers. He hoped that the Thursday players would have many such games as they had had that day and that next season the Thursday Union would ho an established fact. There were at present six teams. namely:—Hairdressers, Jockeys, Bakers, Tailors, Carriers and Butchers that would join the Union and a very interesting competition would he the result. -Air. Dustin said he thought there was nothing to prevent a Thursday Union starting next year. As most of those present wished to attend the School Swimming Bath Social the evening ’terminated early.
THE AUSTRALIAN TEAAI. United Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY, July 11. The s.s. AVarrimoo, with the New Zealand footballers, arrived at 5 o’ clock this morning. The s.s. AVarrimoo experienced stormy conditions the first two days, and throughout her trip from Wellington had to battle against head winds. The New Zealand football team suffered considerably from seasickness, all but one keeping to their berths the first dav. Only two had sufficiently recovered to get about the second day. Some were about for the first time yesterday. One or two are very weak from the effects of sickness; otherwise all landed in good condition. A large gathering of officials gave a reception to the New Zealand team at the Rugby Union rooms at noon today. The President of the Union was in the chair. Speeches complimentary to the visitors’ prowess were delivered. Received Julv 12, 0.12 a.m. SYDNEY, July 11. There was an official welcome of the
New Zealand footballers to-day. They were accorded a hearty reception at the Town Hall which was crowded, Mr. Wade, Attorney-General, presiding. He extended on behalf of the Government a hearty welcome to the visitors. Mr. Wylie, manager of the team, in reply, gave an assurance that not one of the team would join the professional, tour to Britain. The statement evoked great enthusiasm.
