Mr. AY. Ross, of Johnsonville, who .s shortly to commence his duties as assistant stock inspector, arrived by yestorday’s steamer, accompanied by ais wife and family. There are now two lady life inernoers of the Napier Hospital, Mrs. J. d. Coleman has occupied that position for some y-ears, and at the last meeting of the Trustees a similar Honour was conferred on Mrs. H. lan Simson in recognition of a £SO donaion to the funds. The Bev. K. F. Mac Nicol, Bov. James Erwin, and Rev. E. J. Evans resigned their charges with the Auckland Presbytery on Tuesday night, the two former owingjto failing health and the latter to accepting a call to Bulls, Wanganui. This renders vacant twelve charges under tlio Auckland Presbytery.

Mr. Torrance has resigned the post of secretary and senior chaplain ol the Dunedin Patients and Prisoners Aid Society, which he has held for thirty y-ears. The death is reported from Adelaide of the Rev. Joseph Berry, Methodist, formerly of New Zealand. A Press Association telegram from Hokitika states that a presentation of a substantial purse of sovereigns was made last night to Mr. G. J. Roberts, Chief Surveyor of AA Testland, in recognition of the splendid services rendered by him as AYest Coast Commissioner for the International Exhibition. Highly appreciative wires were received from the Premier, the Hon. Geo. Fowlds (Minister in charge of the Exhibition), Mr. T. Y. Seddon, M.H.R., and Mrs. Seddon. The Mayor of Hoki-

tika made the presentation, and eulogistic speeches were given by the acting County chairman, the Mayor of Ross, and many others.
