INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
Press Association. DUNEDIN, last- night. An inquest was held this afternoon ns to tho death of an infant, Hector McPherson,, who died on Tuesday. Tho verdict was that death was due to diphtheria, and tho jury added a rider: “The jurv desire to comment most strongly cm the complete neglect of tho Health authorities to take any action in tho prosont caso, tho same being a serious menaco to the health of tho community, and would also draw attention to tho absence of any place where isolation or eonvevftiico thereto can bo obtained in infectious cases, and trust that tho newspaper press will not cease to urge on the proper authorities tho necessity for immediato action to remedv the present state of affairs.” Dr. Ogston, Health Officer, Dunedin, states that no blame is attachable, to his department, and that on receipt, of Dr. Fulton’s message ho sent forward an ofder to tho hospital authorities, who wore hound bylaw to provide for such cases. They took no steps in tho matter.
