MR JULIUS KNIGHT.

The box plans for the forthcoming visit of Mr. Julius Knight are on view this morning at His Majesty’s Theatre. Mr. Knight is supported by an entirely new Englislw dramatic company whom he personally selected and to which is added some of Australia’s cleverest and best-known artists. The Gisborne season is limited to three nights, on Monday “Raffles” (The Amateur Cracksman), the second night ‘'Brigadier Gerard,” and the Anal production “Robin Hood.” These productions were selected by Mr. Knight for the Australian tour, and judging by the reception accorded them wherever shown, liis judgment has proved correct. Mr. Knight of course plays the title role in the three pieces. The characters are entirely different, and wo will have the pleasure of judging this eminent artist in entirely different atmospheres. “Raffles” is a remarkable play that has established records in England and America. ' It is said to be a strong drama, full of unexpected denouement and surprise, the whole providing a brisk and clever entertainment with much comedy. “Brigadier Gerard” is a new romantic drama by Sir Arthur Conan Hoyle. It is full of substance, and as the period is at the beginning of the nineteenth century, the rich costumes of the French' officers, and the handsome toilettes of the ladies result in some striking stage effects. “Robin Hood” and the legend of the outlay of- Sherwood Forest offers unlimited opportunities to the dramatist, with plenty of scope for cbmedy and a really deep national interest, for the old story represents much of our early national progress.
