A cablegram from Sydney records the death of Colonel Bell, formerly United States Consul. Mr. Griffin, son of the Ilev. Griffin, leaves for England shortly, with a view to undertaking medical studies.
A Press Association telegram from Nelson states that the City Council lias ' appointed Air. W. Aichison Smith, of Port Chalmers, as Resident Engineer. A Press Association message from Christchurch states that the Hon. W. Hall-Jones will not sail until Thursdav the boat having been delated another day.
