UNREST IN INDIA.
AN ALARMING REPORT. United Press Association —Copyright LONDON, July 5. Reuter’s Calcutta correspondent reports that the disaffection affecting Bengal peasants, landholders, and autocracy is more than is supposed m England'. The King’s Birthday was almost unnoticed, except among Mahommedans. A campaign of sedition is being conducted at Calcutta. Revolt- against the law and boycotting British goods everywhere is preached, and a social boycott enforced against those maintaining relations with English officials. The Government are unable to prevent the persecution of loyalists. Many Europeans have been assaulted, and they are compelled to carry arms. Railway carriages containing Europeans are nightly pelted with stones. The impression is current that many firearms are reaching Eastern Bengal. The Europeans are demanding more police and troops, also sterner measures against the seditious organisation called the National Volunteers, aud seditious orators and newspapers.
