CHRISTCHURCH TRAM ACCIDENT.
Press Association. CHRISTCHROH, yesterday. Mrs. Weeks, who sustained a severo fracture of the skull through falling when stepping off the tram car concerned in the collision at St. Albans on AVednesday, still li.es at the hospital in a critical condition. A careful examination of the car which was the cause of the accident lias been made, and the controller which was reported to have caused the accident, was found to be in perfect order so far as ifs working parts were concerned, although tlio outer casing was slightly damaged by the collision. The brakes wero also found to work satisfactorily. Moreover, it was shown that in case of any accident to the controller the power could be cut off the motor by a switch technically known as tb i circuit-breaker, which is situated in the roof of each end of the car just above the motormau’s head, it was also shown that by making a full application with the brake, even with tlio power on, the whole ef the car cotdd he prevented from t-unvug, thus testifying to thp efficiency of the brake equipment.
