Mr. G. E. Darton lias boon reelected unopposed for the North Ward of the Hawke’s Bay Education District.
A private cable received in Dunedin reports the death of Mr. R. F. Smith, senior member of Smith and Smith, painters. - Deceased underwent an operation, in London on Monday last. Tlie bodv of tho late Rev. Father liewis, Vicar-General of AVellington, was buried on Tiusda-. at Karori. The funeral was attended by an extraordinarily large number of mourners. Archbishop Redwood sang the requioum .mass at tho Basilica Hall, and preached a sermon on tlio toxt, “Blessed aro tho dead which die in the Lord.” Mr. Couston arrived from the south yesterday morning. On behalf of the waterworks engineer ho will inspect tlie pipe line to-day.
