SYDNEY COAL LUMPERS.
United Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY, Jury 2. The coal lumpers’ conference lias been resumed. It was decided to conduct it with open doors. The coal lumpers submitted the following proposals : Rates of pay, day work Is 6d an hour, overtime, excepting Saturday, 2s 3d, Saturday 2s, afternoon to midnight 3s; abolition 6f Sunday work ; payment for time the men are kept waiting; that two men shall not carry more than seven yards, and recognition of the Coal Lumpers’ Union. After a lengthy discussion the lumpers’ delegates undertook ..to protect free laborers from molestation, provided they were engaged in certain recognised channels. The steam collier owners’ and stevedores’ delegates agreed to raise no objection to free laborers joining, and the foremen being members of the union. Discussing rates of pay, the union delegates suggested letting the arbitration award go, and fixing up' an agreement independent of it. Xhe employers’ representatives claimed that the rates demanded were equal to 40 per. cent, increase on the present rates, and asked for time to consult other members of the Association. The conference adjourned until to-mor-row.
Recoived July 3, 10.33 D.m. SYDNEY, July 3. The conference of coal-lumpers, after the hi pipers had stated their case for the demands formulated yesterday, adjourned till Friday to allow the employers time to consider the claims.
