SERIOUS TRAMWAY ACCIDENT.
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. A serious tram accident occurred this morning on tj.ie Papanui line. Two trams regularly cross at a siding on a single line. The outgoing car was running well in all respects within a quarter of a mile of the turnout,' but the motorman stares he found the controller stuck when he tried to shut off the current to stop oil the siding, consequently lie rail right through and met tho other car end-on at tho end of the siding. Ihe front ends of the cars were smashed in. but no injury was .done to the seated passengers or motormeu. .Une woman however, seein" 1 the impending smash, stepped off the moving car backwards, and tell on the back of her head, sustaining a fracture of the base of the skull. middle-aged woman, name unknown.
The name of the woman who was injured a” a result of the tramway collision this morning is Mrs. Weeks, a widow, of Lin wood. Up to this evening she had not regained c sciousness.
