POLITICAL NOTES.
(Special to Times). ADDRESS-IN-REPLY. WELLINGTON, last night.. The Address-ill-Rqply in the Legislative Council will be moved by tho Hon. J- T. Paul (Dunedin) and seconded by the Hon. Captain Tucker (Gisborne) both of whom were included in the last batch of appointmonts to the TJppor Chamber. Mr* Paul; who is a Labor representative, is believed to be the youngest member to have held a seat m the Council. HON. W. HALL-JONES. Tho Hon. W. Hall-Jones, *accomrvnniod bv Mrs. Hall-Jones and his private secretary (Mr. J. S. Schmidt), i-ill leave for England V- the Kaipara, which is duo to leave Lyttelton for London on July Bth. Mr. Hall* Jones will be absent from the colony for about six months and will probably visit Japan before ho returns to Now Zealand. THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Tho Hons. J. Rigg and J. E. Jenkinson, whose term of office as Legislative Councillors recently_ expired, have been re-appointed by Cabinet for a further term of seven years, Iho vacancies created by the recent deathß of the Hons. W. Bolt and L. Walker, still remain unfilled. Messrs. Rigg and Jenkinson are both Wellington, members.
DISTRIBUTION OF PORTFOLIOS. The permanent ro-distnbution of portfolios, in connection with the eave of absence granted to tho Hon. Hall-Jones. has not yet been made, but it is expected that the matter will be settled during the present week. As Mr Hall-Jones s portfolios include the important ones of itail-wa-s and Public Works, some interest will attach to the arrangements to be made by Cabinet. , v
