Replying to Lord Jersey, Mr. Fitzmaurice stated that, the Government repeatedly called Germany’s attention to the claims of Messrs. Burns, Pliilp and Co., oi Sydney, in connection with tho treatment; accorded their vessels at tlie Marshall Icland, but bad hitherto been unable to obtain a definite reply. Tlie German Government stated in January that- it had begun a detailed examination oi the claim which had lost considerable tim.e since their foreign office was twice reminded at Berlin. He therefore trusted that Germany would endeavor to come to a decision at an early date.
