REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. Tho usual weekly mooting of tho I ovtcry Bay Referees’ Association was hold at the Royal Hotol at 8 o clock last ovoning. Mr. J. J. Martin was elected to the chair. . The principal business of tho evening was tho election of referees for next Saturday’s matches. In the senior contest, Takitimu v. AVest End, Mr. R. G. Hallamoro was elected to take charge of the whistle, and Mr. AV. Hay was deputed to act in a like capacity in the junior, match, Kaiti City v. Takitimu. Tho third grade match will bo under the control of Mr. J. J. Martin. _ The following will represent tlie Kaiti City Juniors in their matcli against Takitimu next Saturday: E. Luttrell, Bright, Olson, Horgan, AVitty, Coleman, Luttrell, McGregor, Buttorworth, Poynton, Fraser, Cooper, AVilliams, Hogg, Dines. Emergencies : O’Neill, Saunders, Bristow. Tho local butchers hold a meeting at the Royal Hotel last ovening for tho purpose of . forming a football club. Mr. J. McConnell was elected chairman.' After some discussion tho meeting decided to form a club, to lie called tho Butchers’ Fooball Club. The colors of the club ar e to bo blue. The following officers were duly elected Patron, Air. R. Hill; president, Mr. J. Maynard; vice-presidents, Messrs. E .T. Harries, T. McConnell, .J. Newton, T. Howartli; lion, soc., Air. J. AlcConnell; captain, Air. A. AIcConnoll; general committee, captain, secretary, and Alessrs. AV. Pilcher, A. Merritt, and F. James. Twenty-five members were elected at the meeting, and it was resolved to send a challenge to tho Bakers to play a match as soon as convenient -to both teams. INTER-UNIVERSITY AIATCH. Press Association. DUNEDIN, last night. Tho Canterbury College and Otago University teams played a football match to-day, tho result being a decisive win for Otago University by 28 •da Iff. Rain fell all the first spell. Tho visitors were outclassed in all departments, and their back play was poor compared to that of the local players. Naylor and Harrison scored for the College, and Tansey (2), Macpherson (2), AlcChesney (2), don. and Dansey for the University. AA’i Repa potted a goal. AN AAIERICAN AHSITOR. AVELLINGTON, last- night. Air. James Lanagan, a graduate of Stanford University, arrived in AVellington to-day in quest of Rugby knowledge. He is “coach” at the University, which is one of four (Stanford, Pomona, California, and Nevada), that have adojited the Rugby game and he lias been deputed to acquire scientific information. “AA’e are trying to get some ideas,” lie declared, “and to develop Rugby so that in time xve will feel equal to inviting one of your teams over and to send one across to you.”
