LONDON, June 18. Th steamer Medic, which was in collision, has arrived at Liverpool. She has only a slight crack above the water line. The vessel has been drydocked for examination.

SYDNEY, June 19

Several of the s.s. Vardin’s plates were buckled by the fire, but the steamer is seaworthy. Repairs will be effected on reaching Hamburg.

Press Association. AUCKLAND, yesterday. The scow Curlew, northwards bound, is ashore on the coast near Tiritiri, but is reported to be quite safe. A steamer has been despatched to tow her off the' beach. , .Later.

A later report states that the scow Curelw is on the rooks and leaking. The sea is heavy, and the scow signalled the steamer Ngapuhi not to attempt to tow her off till the weather moderates.

WELLINGTON, last night. An inquiry was held to-day concerning the stranding of the steamer Huia on Long Point, Kapiti Island, while on a trip from Wangauni to Wellington. The. Court found that Captain Dowell did not take sufficient precautionary measures to ascertain, liis position when approaching Kapiti. The Court took into consideration his'excellent record during the 30 years he had held a master’s certificate, but thought he should be censured for his want of care on this occasion, and he was ordered to pay the costs of the inquiry.
