HOCKEY.
At the Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon a practice match was played between the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey team and the Convent girls who have taken the game up in, real earnest. Some very good form*%.as shown on both sides. The Daily Telegraph, Napier, says:’ “One of the young ladies representing the Te Kooti Hpckey Club in the recent matches against the Gisborne clubs attributes their rather unsatisfactory performances to. the lavish hospitality of the Gisborne people, who “killed them with kindness. But wait till they come down here,” she said, “when we will be hostesses!” The Poverty Bay Hockey Association met at the Royal Hotel last night, when a large amount ol correspondence was dealt with. It was decided to grant the use of the ground between 2 and 3 o’clock for the football match, Bakers v. Butchers, and for a ladies’ hockey match, Past v. Present Reps. The matches for Thursday were fixed as follows: City v. Kia Kalia, No. 1 ground, Mr. Pa-vitt referee; West End v. Te Rau, No. 2 ground, Mr. Sadler referee. All the matches on Thursday should prove interesting. Tho past lady reps, include a number of good playors who can to relied on to give a good exposition of tho game. In the men’s contest, City v. Kia Kaha are divided by one point for first place, and West End and To Rau are similarly placed as regards last place. Tho following will represent West End in their match oil Thursday: Hooper, Wills, Olsen, Sim, McLachlan. Roderick, Somervell, Bryce, Glover, Olliver, Wi. Emergency: J. Roderick.
