WAIHUKA VALLEY ROAD.
A number of Rokauroa settlers waited on the Hon. Mr. Carroll on Saturday afternoon with regard ' to :ho‘ nbovo road asking for a furthor giiiht. _ .... Tho deputation consisted of:' Messrs. W. D. S. McDonald, P. McLaughlin, It. Honson, J. B. Clark, H K.- Burgess, A. Mortloinan, J. Marshall and others. Mr. McDonald introduced tho deputation and stated the present position of affairs. Tho settlors, ho said, had saddled thomsolvos with a loan of £2,C00 to put. tho road through and tile Government, granted 1 them' £SOO before this mid now tho money’ was just about finished and tho road not completed. A mistake was mndo in the Engineer’s report. A sum of about £2,200 would be needed. This would 'allow compensation to Hutchinson Bros, for their loss of fencing on both sides of thoir prqporty. Tliov accordingly asked help m the matter of granting a grant to that when the road went through it would tap leasehold property which would be falling into tho Government s hands in the courso of a year or two. The Minister, in reply, stated that he would try to get a grant’ of £IOOO for tho purposo asked. The Department thanked Mr. Uairoll and withdrew. ’
