Alter Bauer was murdered Cutler, a jeweller in Little Collins street, informed the police that'a man called at his shop arid inquired Bauer’s address a few days ago. The description coiTCsponds with that ol a wellknown' criminal. Suspicion points to the belief that the I'ugUive has gone to Sydney. This idea fits in with the story that a man was seen to leave the Modern Chambers building in a violent hurry a few minutes nflor 5, and bailed a cab, telling the driver to drive fast to Spencer street. The Sydney express left at S.o p.m.
