The Hon. G. Eowlds yesterday visited Helensville for the purpose' of formally opening- the new bathhouse at the Hot Springs there. A largo
number of Auckland visitors attended. The supply is said to be permanent, and the medicinal qualities are
undoubted. Government assistance towards erecting the caretaker’s houso and beautifying the grounds was a shod for. The Minister gave a very sympathetic reply. He would not give a shilling to support a woman who had carried on as his wife had done, not even if it- meant the scaffold to-morrow. The Magistrate sentenced Hodson to three months’ hard labor. The warrant will he withheld till July pay day in order to give accused an opportunity of paying off the arrears due.
TIMARU, yesterday. At a meeting to-day the South Canterbury Board of Education passed a resolution protesting against the action of the Department in deciding to make no travelling allowance for those children who travel to school from a distance per horse or bicycle. The Chairman said he hoped every Board in the colony would pass a similar resolution.
