TE KOOTI V. GISBORNE

The return match, To Kooti versus I Gisborne, was played at Victoria 1 Domain in perfect weather yesterday I afternoon. The teams were the same J as played on Thursday, with the exception of Miss Elliott, Te Kooti’s.j goal-keeper, who returned home by I steamer. Miss O’Reilly, the visiting I captain, took her place as goal-lceepei j and Miss E. Humphries went back 1 to full-badk. I From the bully-off both teams went to work in earnest, fielding and driving well. Miss Y. Sherratt stopped a hot drive and dribbling well carried I play on to the visitors’ line. Tlie home team were penalised for “sticks,” which relieved the pressure. Miss B. Goffe, on the wing, secured the ball and made a fine dribbling 1 run down tho line, centring the ball with a fine drive. Miss Cora Humphries stopped well and made a good run down the centre of the ground The local vanguard brought the bal. back again and some splendid passin:: was indulged in, which enabled Mis; Ivy Goffe to shoot- a lovely Miss E. Matthews took the ball down the field at a great rate, but Miss t. Deliver, showing fine defensive powers, beat her for the bull and witu ■■ line drive cleared her line, -uiss h. \V achsmann next came into promm ence, taking the bail well into L Kooti’s territory, where a fierce at mek was set up on the visitor, stronghold. Miss E. Matthews, oi. attack, was in her element and succeeded in taking the play into Te •vooti’s circle time after time. Mist Jones brought timely relief with a veil directed drive. Miss B. Gotto ■aced the ball along the line and then with a fine drive sent it flying into the centre, where Miss Lena Matthews secured, and worked the ball into the visitors’ circle. Miss E. Matthews had a shot- at goal, the bal: going outside tlie post. The local ladies kept up a persistent attack on Hastings’ base, but the splemlid-.de-fonsive work of the Misses O’Reilly, Danvers and Humphries held them at bay for a time. A fine run by Miss Sliattky shifted play into neutral territory, but Miss K. Sherratt soon brought it back again and tlie l’e Kooti rearguard had to work hard to prevent a score. Miss R. Danvers by a fine drive relieved tlie pres sure and Miss Cora Humphries following up smartly, took the ball web up the field. Not to be denied,, the home team returned ..to the attack and a free hit for off-side play on the part of Miss Ivy Goffe, brought momentary relief. Shortly afterwards Miss Ivy Goffe shot anothei goal for Gisborne. Half time was then called and the players took a well-earned five minute’s rest.

Upon resuming, the Gisborne team who were playing with great dash and combination, attacked hotly and the Hastings rearguard were given some difficult work to do. The Misses Jones, Danvers, O’Reilly and Humphries were defending for their lives and succeeded for a time in keeping their opponents off. The passing oi the local team was of a very high order and from a brilliant rush, Miss Ivy Goffe scored her third goal. Miss Cora Humphries carried the play away from her goal-line and dribbled well up the field, where Miss Johnstone secured and with a line drive sent the ball back again. Gisborne attacked with great spirit, and Miss O’Reilly saved well. Miss Jones next carried play out of danger by a fine | rush. Another fine passing rush by I the Gisborne-forwards enabled Miss. | Lena Matthews to hit a nice goal. Miss Cora Humphries at this point of the game played with great- dasl and cleared her lino time after time. Shortly before the call of time Miss Lena Matthews scored another good goal, Gisborne thus winning by

goals to nil. For the winners, Misses AVaclismann, E. Matthews and B. Goffe played fine games, passing and driving with great skill. For the visitors Misses Danvers, Jones and C. Humphries were the pick. Mr. E. H. Pavitt controlled the game in his usual efficient '.mannei and Mr. Wachsmanh and Miss D. Osborne were the line umpires.
