Mr. A. A. B.ethune, Government Audit Inspector, leaves this morning for Auckland.
The Hon. Jas. Carroll, Native Minister, is expected to arrive from the South to-day. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that on arrival at Adelaide Sir J. G. Ward will travel overland to Sydney, catching the Mahenb there for Wellington where he arrives on the 26th instant. Private advice received in Dunedin reports the death at Melbourne of Captain Chatfiekl, for many years in the. Union CompanyZs intercolonial service.
Mr. V. J. Scanlon, of the local post office, is under transfer to Hast-1 ings, and will be succeeded by Mr. I W. H. Payne, from Wellington. At a meeting of the Auckland City Council on Thursday the Mayor presented the Humane Society’s medal to F. Tester, who behaved in a most courageous riianner in attempting tc save Mrs. Driscoll from burning or October 24, 1905, Tester found Mrs. Driscoll enveloped in flames. He wrapped her in a sack, and tore the burning clothes off with his bare hands. Mrs, Driscoll died later, but Tester’s bravery in extinguishing thr fire, while himself badly burned, no , doubt saved the life of her husband y - | was asleep, and valuable propeity. Tester previously rescued a boy who had fallen from a vessel in jiort.
