FOOTBALL DINNER

PROPOSED THURSDAY CONTEST.

The Hairdressers were entertained by the Tailors at a dinner last evening at Mr. Dustin’s supxier rooms, whoro a sumptuous repast was prepared, full justice being done to the -good tilings provided. After the dinner a long programme of songs and recitations was gone through. During the evening Mr. Morse, captain of the Hairdressers, proposed the toast of the I ’Tailors, which was enthusiastically drunk, and Mr. Lyford, captain of the Tailors, suitably responded. In the course of his remarks Mr. Lyford said that the trade teams should club together and start a Thursday football union. He felt sure that if they did so they would receive the support of the public, and have no trouble in putting four or five teams in the field* Songs were contributed by Messrs. H. Gibson, M. Orpwood, Glover, Wilkinson, G. McLaclilan, J. Roderick, Hitchins, Moriarty, G. Holmes, C. Morse, and Ollivcr. Mr. R. Somerville gave a recitation, and Mr. AY. Robinson a step-dance. Mr. A r on. Lubbe presided at ■ the piano, and played the accompaniments in a masterly manner. A most enjoyable evening was spent, concluding at 10 o’clock, when all the company joined in singing “Auld Lang Syne.”
