COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION.

PROGRESS RETURNS,

The Waikoliu riding election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr. J. A. Harding, was held on Saturday. Unfortunately three of the ballot boxes, destined for Motu, Whakarau and ltakauroa, did not come to hand through some postal delay, consequently tho figures are incomplete. The voting at the central booth was larger than had been anticipated, owing to tho number of settlors visiting town, and additional ballot papers had to be hurriedly procured from the printers. The figures to hand show a total of 145 votes recorded for Mr. AY. D. Lysnar, as. against 107 cast in Mr. E. M. Hutchinson’s favour. The tally of the votes registered at Bruce’s store, Wharekopae, has still to come to hand. Returns received are as follows:

Hutchinson. Lysnar Gisborne ... 54 91 Whatatutu Williams’ store, 0 28 Wliarekopao To Karaka 3 0 (unofficial) 50 26
