CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday,

The wheat market is mculi excited to-day, but no advanco is reported on yesterday’s price, and no advance on flour, which is now quoted at £ll per ton. Five shillings per bushel, f.0.b., was offered yesterday for a parcel of wheat, but no sal© was recorded at that figure. This morning 500 bushels of Tuscan and oUO bushels of Hunter’s sold at 4s 6d, and 4s 7*d was refused for a parcel of Pearl. There is an , opinion that tho highest price has been reached for flour, one leading miller saying ho sees no reason for any further vise, and he anticipates a speedy fall to normal.

Tho Hon. J. A. Millar, interviewed to-day in regard to the price of bread, said that it was more a matter for settling the responsibilities of tho millers’ trust. Parliament might have something to say on it in view of the increased cost of living.

Bread goes up to 7d a 41b loaf to morrow.

AUSTRALIAN IMPORTATIONS,

DUNEDIN, last night.

The latest development, of the wheat boom is the report that contracts are on the point of being concluded for an extensive shipment of Australian flour to N.Z., the last rise in the. local article having made this possible.

BIG RISE IN WHEAT.

ASHBURTON, last night.

The bakers to-day again raised the price of bread to 7d for casli and 7 ’ d booked for the .41b loaf yesterday. A merchant offered a line of wheat at 4s 6d per bushel, but to-day withdrew the offer and asked for 4s 9d.
