HAAVKE’S BAY STEEPLECHASE.
NAPIER, last night. The following nominations have been received for the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase of 250 sovs, 3 niiles— Needlework, Eclair, Nadador, Comfort, Daredevil, Sammy, Hutana, Nogi, Rangitata, Hilcairoa, Lord Ullin, Irish, Romany King, Le Vent, Iviatere.
TAKAPUNA MEETING.
AUCKLAND, last night,
The Takapuna Jockey Club’s White" Meeting concluded to-day in showery weather. There was a good attendance. The sum of £12,739 10s was passed through the machines, against £7285 10s on the concluding day last year, making £22,756 for the meeting, against £13,658 for the meeting in 1906. The winning double Syren and Miss Winnie paid £137 19s. Results:—
Pupuke Handicap—Turbine 1, Cymri 2, Cyrenian 3. Scratched—Waihekau. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.17 2-5. Divs, £4 Is and £1 9s.
Hauturu Hurdles—Khama 1, Y’olette 2, Bonomiana 3. Also started—Hautpu. Time, 3.3 3-5. Div, £2 13s.
Britauiiea Handicap—Syren 1, Annoyed 2, Te Arolia 3. Scratched - Lord Seaton, Tui Cakobau, Free Mount and Bully. Won easily. Time, 1.52 3-5. Divs, £5 14s and £4 19s. Victoria Handicap—Miss Winnie 1, Soult Maid 2, Certainty 3. Scratched—Omati and Syren. A great race, heads separating the placed horses. Time, 1.17 1-5. Divs, £6 11s and £1 19s.
Pony Handicap—Mighty Atom 1. Sonoma 2, Forth 3. All started. Won easily. Time, -1.17 3-5. Divs, £9 4s and £1 16s.
Takapuna Steeplechase—Haydn 1, Moultan 2, Cachuca 3. Scratched— Fretwork, Lady Hune and Nor’-west. A great race.* Won by half a length. Time, 7.59. Divs, £1 16s and £1 13s. Welter Handicap—Syren 1, Laily Gladys 2, Lilllali Rookh 3. Scratched—Henry Havelock and Bully. Time, 1.55 2-5. Divs, £2 4s and £1 13s.
WANGANUI MEETING, WANGANUI, last night.
The Wanganui J.C.’s meeting concluded to-day in unpleasant weather. The sum of £11,140 was put through the machine, as against £9387 for the corresponding day last year. The total for the meeting was £23,053, as against £20,179 last year. Results: Winter Oats Handicap—Chatterer 1, Delania 2, Regulation 3. All started. Flimsnap, Armistice, and Waipakif were hung up in tlie tapes at the start. Volume fell near the six-
furlong post. Time, 1.44 2-o. Divs., £l3 7s and £1 12s. Grandstand Steeples—Waitarere 1, Slow Tom 2, Eclair 3. -Also started: Hikiroa. Hikiroa and Eclair fell, but were remounted. Waitarere won "easily. Time, 5.11 2-5. Div., £3 6s. Balgownie Hack Flat —Waitapu 1, The Dane 2, Compass 3. Scratched: Barley. Won easily. Time, 2.3 2-5. Divs., £2 11s and £5 10s. - Century Hurdles^ —Malioe l,- Le Beau' 2, Bonheur 3. Scratched: Jack Pot, Nestator, and Southern Cross. Won all the way. Time, 4.3 1-5. Divs., £2 15s and £7 7s. Rata Hack Hurdles —Top Rose 1, Kaipetipeti 3. .. All started- Te Uira was second, but was disqualified,’not being able to draw the weight. Time, 3.12. Divs:, £2l 6s and £l. Farewell Hack Flat Handicap Waicola 1, Chicane 2, Motoa 3. Scratched: Gaiety, Lingerer, and The Dane". A close finish. Won by a short neck. Time, 1.19. Divs., £C 9s and £6 4s.
NORTH OTAGO MEETING. OAMARU, last night.
Tho North Otago J.C.’s races were concluded to-day, in splendid weather. The attendance was large. The sum of £4478 10s went through the machine, making £8265 10s for tho two days, or an increase of £2946 on last winter’s meeting. Results: l’arkside Welter —Merrymaker 1, Aid Reigh 2, Sam AVeller 3. All started. Won by four lengths. Time, 1.21. Divs., £5 8s anil £1 18s. ‘The Shorts—White Cockade 1, Petard 2, Royal Shell 3. ' Scratched: Wool, Sailmaker, Won by four lengths. Time, 1.7. Divs., £ls 4s and 14s.
Telegraph Handicap—Replete 1, Gwendolina 2, Tessera 3. Aimee Soult was scratched. A great race. Won by a neck. Time, 1.21 3-5. Div., £2. '
Victoria Handicap—Apollodoris 1, Astrakhan 2, Lapland 3. Fireiron and Probable were scratched. Won by a short heatl, after a hard-fought race. Time, 1.48. Div., £5 4s. Pukeuri Handicap Trot —King V. 1, Osborne R. 2, Prince Randle 3. All startod. Won comfortably by six lengths. An inquiry was held into the winner’s running on the two days. The stewards found that thero was no evidence to warrant disqualification, but dissatisfaction was expressed with the horse’s running. Redcastle Welter—Bombastes 1, Royal Shell 2, Don Orsino 3. Also
