Mr. Kenny, secretary of the Sailors’ and Firemen’s Union, announces that a movement is afoot in various parts to demand an all-round rise in wages of 10s monthly on all foreign-going ships, and 2s 6d to 3s on coasting vessels. Press Association. RECALCITRANT BUTCHERS. CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. Fourteen of tho j/areora slaughtermen who wore fined in connection with tho recent strike have disregarded the judgment of the Court and refused to pay their fines. Mr. Stringer, Crown Prosecutor, has filed motions in the Supreme Court for attachment of tho defaulters. Mr. Justice Chairman has provisionally arranged to hoar the‘motions on June 4 at Timaru, after tho Criminal Sessions.
