AUSTRALIAN MAIL SERVICE.

SOME ANXIETY FELT.

Press Association —Copyright. MELBOURNE, May 24. Considerable anxiety is felt regarding the mail contract. It is considered unlikely the Federal Government will move further in the matter, and that the subject will be dealt with at the Premiers’ Conference, which opeus at Brisbane next week. The renewal of Mr. Bent’s proposal that the State Government should guarantee the Australian section of debenture holders £135,000 annually for 10 years is likely to meet with considerable opposition. Mr. Carruthers declines to say anything. Mr. Kidstone (Queensland) declared against it. The South Australian, Westralian, and Tasmanian Premiers are believed to be more sympathetic. Other principal question to be discussed at the Premiers’ Conference will be. the Braddon blot and the appointment of State Governors.
