It is reported that Mr. E. J. Ilk diford lias purchased Mr. Godfrey Pharazyn’s Taonui (Manawatu) property, of 1100 acres, at £45 per acre. The price paid is a riso of £2O per acre in four years, Mr. Pharazyn having paid £2O per acre that time ago.
The Association of A’clunteer Teachers, after consultation with the head master, Mr. Rowley, has made arrangements- to give the Bible lesson in the Gisborne School on Monday mornings at 9 o’clock, beginning on Monday, 10th June.
In reference to the statement -of Dunedin carpenters re the exportation of Kaipara kauri logs from Jlargaville to Australia, the export figures are:. In 1905, to Melbourne, 137,876 feet, to Sydney 52,195 feet, and in 1906. to Sydney, 52,585 feet. The export duty is 3s per 100 feet. The quantity is getting less yearly.
A Press Association telegram from Palmerston states that at a meeting of the N.Z. Flaxmillers’ Association held yesterday new rules were adopted. The Government regulations regarding flax were freely discussed, and a list of desired amendments waq- drawn out. The intention is to sond a deputation to the Minister in support of the desired alterations. It was also mentioned that it was of extreme importance that a Chief Grader be appointed, in order that a uniform system of grading shall be carried out.
A very successful euchre party and dance in connection with St. Mary’s Church was held at Whinray’s Hall last evening. There were no less than 36 tables in the competition, The first prize for ladies fell to Miss Abn-tin and t.lie first, prize for gen-
cd liy Mrs. Sandlant and for the gentlemen by Mr. V. Peterson. The iiuchrc party was kept going till ton o’clock and then the hall was cleared for dancing. It is estimated that there were 75 couples present and a ijood number of dances were gone -yrough. Tho music was supplied by fiss Buchanan (piano) and Mr. Litcli/ark (violin). The party broke up. tliortly alter midnight having one and :all heartily enjoyed themselves. It has been decided to hold these gatherings every fortnight in the future.
j ie services to be conducted in the Holy Trinity Church to -morrow— Trinity Sunday— are announced in our advertising columns. At the li o’clock service there will be a church parade of tile East Coast Mounted Itifles now in camp at tlie park. The chaplain to the Mounted Kifles, I(ev. \j. Dawson Thomas, is to conduct the service. In the evening at 7 o’clock the annual service for men will be held. The Vicar will officiate, and extends a hearty'special invitation to all men in the parish and district to attend the service. The church authorities are arranging extra seating accommodation in the church, and ample provision will be made for the congregation. Special old favorite hymns are to be sung. There will be the usual 7 o’clock evening services at the Haiti and Mangapapa school- ' rooms. t

A school concort was hold at the Kniti schoolroo.’ji lust evening and pi-ovod a complete success. There was a large attendance of tho residents of Haiti and a number of townspeople, wore also , present. - A lengthy programme was submitted and somo of our leading vocalists took part. The club’s orchestra kindly gave their assistance and added not a littlo to tlio success of tlio ovoiiing’s entertainment.
P.D.P. Bro. Spiers presided at tlio mooting of Lodgo Turanganui U.A.Q.D. on Thursday evening. Nominations wore rocoived for officers for tho next half-year and also for the position of trustoo, in tlio place of the late Mr. J. A. Harding. Two members wore initiated and sovoral nominated. It was decided that the annual social should bo hold on Steoplochaso night. A committee was formod to carry out tho arrangements, Bro. J. A. Eaton being elected secretary.
The AVollington City Council lias set up committees, one to report oi: tho desirability of negotiating with the Gas Company for tho purchase of tho latter’s works, and the other to consider whether tho time has not arrived when local bodies should unite
to acquire an area of land outside the city suitable and adequate to meet the prospective growth of tho industrial and commercial interests of Wel-
lington province. In connection wtih the latter proposal it is suggested there should be a comprehensive reclamation of the foreshores at Evans Bay to provide for gas works, ship and boat-building, sawmilling, and other desirable industries.
