ANDREW MACK
Mr. J. C. Williamson presents this distinguished artist to Gisborne playgoors for throe nights only, commencing on Monday next, at His Majesty s Theatre. Just a word or two about Andrew Mack. Ho comes to Now Zealand like a fresh sprig of shamrock to cheer the devoted hearts of Old Ireland with a renewed reverence for her great dead (not that they need it). As Tom Moore, Andrew Mack is as we would all love to have the sweet poet, a manly, handsome fellow, with never a black thought; a smile like a summer’s dawn, and a voice that would reach the heart of an anchorite: Andrew Mack is the beau ideal of an Irish comedian, a passionate lover, with a beautiful Irish way of breaking into humor at crucial mom 011 ts—he has many little touches and asides that lend a piquancy to his fascinating performance. Apart from the individuality of the “star,” “Tom Moore” is a well-writ-ten and admirably-constructed play dealing—a little idealistically perliaps—with the ups and downs of tho poet’s life, to which is lent a delightful atmosphere by tho presence ol such figures as the Prince of Wales, Mrs. Fitzgerald, Brinsley Sheridan, Beau Brummel, Bessie Dyke, and other famous characters of the early years of tlic nineteenth century. “The Way to Kenmare,” a charming Irish play in which Mr. Madk lias become famous, is to be staged on the second evening, and “Jack Shannon” will be the farewell production by Mr. Mack and his company. The box plans are now open at Miller’s.
