Under date May 22, Mr, J. AV. Bright writes :—Permit mo to correct an error'in your report of my speech made last evening in response to tho toast of the .“Commercial Interests of Poverty Bay,” at tho banquet tendered by the Mayor to His Excellency the Governor. I am reported as having said that “ten years, ago Gisborne was the eighth po rt in value of exports, and it was now fifth. In . agricultural and pastoral products Gisborne
accounted for a third of the Colony’s exports.” AVhat I did say was that in the matter of the exports of wool during the past ten years, Poverty Bay had risen from eighth to fifth port, and that taking the comparison between the initial and closing years of that period, the increase in wool exports from Poverty Bay accounted for a third of that of the whole Colony. -■ r...
