The traffic returns for the tramways for the fortnight ended April 27 and May 11, 1907, as compared with the corresponding periods for last year, were as follows April, 1907: .Receipts £2llO, mileage 40,656; 1906: Receipts £2114, mileage 43,820. May, 1907: Receipts £2096, mileage 41,789; 1906: Receipts £1927, mileage 43,362. CHRISTCHURCH, yesterday. Mr. F. H- Chamberlain, Tramway Board engineer, at last night’s meeting, submitted tlie estimated cost of extensions. The estimates included the present high market cost.botli of rails and copper : Cashel-street line, 153 chains, £10,502; Dallington bridge, 66 chains, £4483; Colomhostreet North, 98 chains, £6684; duplication of Worcester-street, <9 chains, £5191; Selwyn-street, 146 chains, £9985; St. Albans-Burwood, 55 chains, £3499; Cathedral Square connection, £945. If further extensions are decided on it w-ill be necessary tq purchase additional 921 b rails, iho present stock being necessary for maintenance purposes. The 631 b rads in stock aro useful for short extensions, but tlie engineer c)oes not recommend a light-weight rail for any of tho above-mentioned extensions. He was preparing data m regard o the use of petrol and steam motors on the lines. ■
