At the Police Court Mr. Holman, a member of the Assembly, and tivo others, were fined on a charge of instigating a strike in connection with the timber trade trouble. Stay of proceedings was granted with a view of appeal.

WHARF LABORERS’ WAGES WELLINGTON, yesterday
The case of the Wellington 'Laborers’ Union v. HuHdart, Parker and Co. was before the Arbitration Court to-day. An application was made for enforcement of the Act. The award made on November 23rd stipulated that there was to be a suppoi hour. It is alleged'that on January 2nd men w'ere employed and worked at the steamer Wimmera from 6 p.m. to 12.30 a.m., and from 1 a.m. to 1.30 a.m. on June 3rd without a break. It was argued on behalf of the company that the section did not forbid working through meal hours, but the men so engaged should be paid overtime. Tl.o Court reserved its decision. SERIOUS STRIKE IN ’FRISCO. AUCKLAND, yesterday. A private cable received in Auckland states that:’* very serious, strike is at present occurring in San Francisco. Business generally is at a standstill, especially as far as .hipping is concerned. No cargo for tlie colonies can be shipped in the meantime, ,
