“THE MIDNIGHT WEDDING."

The farewell performance of the romantic military drama, “The Midnight .Wedding,” was given by Meynell and Gunn’s Company last night at His Majesty’s Theatre and attracted another large audience: Tho Theatre was filled to its utmost, chiefly on account of His Excellency the Governor’s attendance, The audience was a very appreciative and attentive one. His Excellency arrived shortly after ten o’clock and was ■ saluted with “God . Save the King by the orchestra. Mr. Harcourt Beatty again gained great applause from the audience' for his clever interpretation of Paul ALilmar, as did Miss May Congdon as Princess Astrea von Strelsburg. Tho public will long appreciate the creditable manner in which the several performers acquitted themselves. The Company sail for Napier to-day and with them goes “The Little Mother”—Masie Posner —who has become a great favorite here amongst theatre-goers. Of Miss Posner, Melbourne Punch says: —“Masie in Melbourne must be consumed with regret over a lost opportunity. The American comedian would have made a fortune had he taken the bright little Australian wtili him to the United States.”

The following music was supplied by the orchestra and was much appreciated by the audience:—March, “AVaving Plumes”; valso, “By the AVatermill” ; intermezzo, “Golden Rod” ; “Nelson Spruce” ; “George Washington” ; “Ine Inez.”
