CORRESPONDENCE
HARRIS STREET BRIDGE
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I am pleased to see that the Borough and County Council are waking up to the fact that a bridge is required connecting Whataupoko and Kaiti. I am sure if some of’ the Councillors were at the Taru-
lieru Bridge when a big mob of sheep were crossing and saw the number of traps that were stuck up on both sides for nearly half an hour, they would have insisted upon its erection long ago. The Roebuck road bridge will not have half the traffic over it that a bridge at Harris’ street will , have, and why that was . pushed on. in such a hurry and the most urgent one neglected is a mystery to me. To think that two populous districts like Kaiti and Whataupoko are. still unconnected, and that it means a drive.of.a couple of miles to get round, only shows what a slow crowd we have had on our local bodies. I notice that in Taranaki all the new bridges are being built of reinforced concrete, which is proved 'to be everlasting aud cheaper than either timber or iron, and should suggest this being kept in view when tenders are being called. —I am, etc.,. KAITI.’ May 20th.
