RISE IN FLOUR
EXCITEMENT IN CHICAGO.
‘ Press Association—Copyright. Received 12.25 n.m., May 15. NEW YORK, A ray 14. There was tremendous excitement on the Chicago Exchango when Soptonibor wheat touched one dollar. There woro" enormous transactions and rapid fluctuations'. A portion of tho advance was lost by extensive transactions in Now York.
Press Association. DUNEDIN, last night. The hardening of tlio wlioat market, caused by reports of crop shortages in the colony, allied to the excited condition of tho American and European markets, is responsible for an advance of 10s per ton in tlio price ol flour. The tariff of the New Zealand Flonrmillors’ Association had accordingly been revised, and now stands: Sacks £9 os, 100’s £9 15s. 50’s £lO, 25’s £lO. 15s. Tlio shipping price lias been advanced to £9 f.0.b., and Invercargill prices to £9 10s. It is quite on the cards that should the wheat market continuo to advance another rise in the prices of flour may shortly be made. The usual monthly'meeting of the Master Bakers’ Union will be held on Thursday. It is unlikely that any alteration will bo made in the price of bread. Any further advance in flour will, however, place a different complexion on affairs.
