FOOTBALL.

POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION

The weekly meeting of the Union was held in the Masonic Hotel last night, there being present Messrs. Miller (chairman), Maude, AAaucliop, Sherriff, Malone, Willock, and Cowan (lion, sec.) The draw for the first match of the cup contest resulted as follows: Saturday, 18th—ICaiti City v. V est Saturday, 25th —ICaiti City v. Takitinui. _ _ , ... Saturday, Ist .June —Takitmui v. West End. The Junior contest starts on 2oth inst., in the same order. Advice was received from the N.Z. R.U. that the North v. South Island match would take place on June 3rd at Christchurch. The N.Z. team to visit Australia will leave early in July, and the players will be selected From those taking part in the North v. South match.

It was decided that in future all officials of the Union wear the pffifcial badge while on the Domain during the progress of any matches. The badge will be in the form of a red ribbon, the Union’s 'mc)iogram, P.8.11.W., in black letters. A large number of players were passed and classified for tho various clubs. The Hockey Association wrote re tlieir subscription to the Union, but it was decided to conform to the arrangement as at first decided upon.

NORTH ISLAND TEAM.

Press Association. WELLINGTON, last night. Tile following Wellington players have been nominated for places in the North Island- team : ■ —Backs, G. Spencer (Melrose), Wallace (Poneke), Mitcheson (Poneke), Roberts (Oriental); forwards, Lile (Oriental), Wilson (Athletic), J. Spencer (Melrose), Byrne, AVriglit, and Cross (Petone). AVANGANUI, last night. At a meeting of AVanganui ltugby Union, a motion was passed strongly disapproving of any suggestion ofsending a team of New Zealandl fooL. bailers to England to play teams of the Northern Union there.
