VICE-REGAL VISIT
The committee set up by the Borough Council to consider the matter 'f entertaining -His Excellency the Governor on bis visit to Poverty Baybas drawn up the following programme May 20th. Monday afternoon: Mounted escort will meet His Excellency in the country and accompany him to Gisborne. Probably short address from County Council on approach to Waipaoa bridge at Matawliero. The Mayor and County Chairman will meet his Excellency upon arrival in tlio Borough, and proceed to the Masonic hotel, where the Governor will stay-. 7 p.m.: Dine with liis Worship the Mayor (Mr. Townley). Tuesday-, 21st, 10 a.m.: (Mounted escort). Welcome at Band rotunda, Read’s Quay-, where members of tlio Borough Council, County Council, and other local bodies will receive
his Excellency. An address will he read by the Town Clerk (City Band in attendance). At the close of this function the Governor will present prizes to the Gisborne Rifles, and then will drive to the Theatre, where a levee will be held. 2 p.m.: Entrain for Te Ivaraka and open entension of line to Waikohu bridge. Afternoon tea at Pulia. 8 p.m. : Attend His Majesty’s Theatre, “The Midnight Wedding” (guard of honor). Wednesday, 22nd, 10 a.m. : Drive round town and inspect Gisborne district and technical schools, and
should there be time before lunch, the Hospital, Te Ran College, and Old Men’s Home, will be v-isited. 2 p.m. : Motor drive to country, visiting Te Arai Native Church, lienee round Makauri v calling at Mrs. Barker’s for afternoon "Tea and return to town. 8 p.m.: Attend Masonic function, Masonic Lodge, Childers road. 10 p.m.: Special launch to steamer.
