The Arbitration Court’s award in the Waihi miners’ dispute provides for increased wages of Gd a shift for miners in stopes and dry' shafts, and ordinary miners, chambermen, bracemoil, mullockers, truckers, rock drillers, firemen, winders, stampers, greasers, battery' watchmen, repairers, tool sharpeners, and all others. The employers’ representative on the Bench recorded his dissent from the increase in wages. STATUTORY HALF-HOLIDAY". DUNEDIN, .yesterday. Hunter and Etheridge, grocers, were fined 20s and costs for having allowed their carter to be delivering goods after 1 o’clock on Wednesday', which is the statutory half-holiday. SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY. INVERCARGILL, last night. At a large and enthusiastic meeting held to-night, it was unanimously decided to form a Universal Saturday Half-Holiday Association with a view to promote interest in the question and suporting legislation that may be brought down next session in.the direction of, a compulsory universal Saturday Half-Holiday. The speakers strongly approved of the Hon. J. A. Millar’s enforcement of the Factories Act and contended that the half-holiday should be observed in all classes of employment on the same day and that day should be Saturday. A committee was appointed and a large number of members were enrolled. ASHBURTON, last night. An occupier of a factory was fined 5s and costs for failing to give his employees a half-holiday- on March 30th, the 'day after Good Friday. The defendant contended that 1 having
given a special holiday in one week there was no need to give the usual half-holiday.
