Press Association. —Copyright. MOTIONS PASSED. LONDON, May 9, Mr. Deakin’s and Sir Joseph Ward’s resolutions relating to treaty obligations were carried. The Cape’s resolution was carried relating to uniformity in granting and protecting trade marks and patents.
A resolution was carried advocating greater uniformity of trade statistics of the Empire and in company laws. The Conference recorded and reserved further consideration of Sir Joseph Ward’s resolution in favor of reciprocity in the admission of barristers, and passed Sir Joseph Ward s resolution for reciprocity in the admission of land surveyors.
IMPERIAL FUND. LONDON, May 9.
Mr. Lloyd George is trying to block Mr. Deakin’s Imperial fund resolution, declaring it a matter for treaty only. Mr. Asquith declines to attend the Conference to discuss the subject. CANADA’S TREATIES. LONDON, May 9. The Dally Mail states that the Hon. W. S. Fielding, Minister of Finance, is leaving Ottawa to negotiate with Germany and Australia with a view to an intermediate tariff. The Mail adds that if Germany grants Canada concessions which England refused the preference on British goods as against German falls from 50 per cent, to 10. ADVERTISING CATALOGUES. LONDON, May 9. Sir W. Lyne received a deputation of members of the London and Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, also the Associated Chambers of Commerce, who asked that the duties on advertising catalogues be removed or made payable,in England in bulk. Sir W. Lyne replied that it was impossible to remove the duties, and he would consider the other suggestion. He implied that it might be necessary to extend the duty to machines which by excessive advertisements sought to evade the duty on advertising catalogues. Sir W. Lyne pointedly referred to Britain’s disinclination for preference.
